Tilden Park
UCGC 2-Ball Championship
9th Event of 2000 Season
Saturday, July 8, 2000

A scary looking bunch of guys. Included in this picture are, from left to
right, Paul Witkay, Chris Baker, Russell Greenwood, and Clayton Wallace.

Chris Baker on the practice green playing a putting game for $ .25. Such
large stakes amongst a group like this can really impact one's wallet.

Clay misses this short one which costs the team a quarter.

Russell staring down a long putt. Onlookers eagerly await their
chance at the $ .25 jackpot.

While some fritter away their time playing games on the practice green, others
are more intent on the real stakes. Sam Scalise work on his swing at the range.

Notice the fine follow-through.

Dave Chia preparing for combat.

Chris Baker finally decides to get serious. Yet how can anyone take him
seriously. Just look at him for Christ's sake!

Russell Greenwood also follows suit and decides to hit the range.

He's got one thing and one thing only on his mind. A check from UCGC made
out in his name.

Kelly Alvarez, Rick Crawford, Mitchell Chernock, and Dale Steele on the
first tee.

Boyd McCaslin and Bob Desimone watching after Bob's drive.

Teammates Rick Crawford & Kelly Alvarez, and Bob Sternbach & Ralph Hill.

Steve Desimone leaves this birdie putt short on 9. The pin was on a steep
incline and everything was rolling back. Steve's comment was, "I
would have had two chances at it if I'd only gotten it there."

Steve Desimone and teammate Ed Arnold after nine holes.

Teammates Jim Baer and Ken Lloyd after completing 9. Ken shot a 68,
suffering only one bogey during his performance.

Jim Peretti and his playing partner Bob Tulk.

Robert Desimone and Jim Peretti waiting to tee off on #1.

Jim playing hurt.

Note the large band-aid on his finger. Such injuries plague Jim's otherwise
perfect game.

Robert Desimone with new member Rollie Otto.

Ben Greenspan putting on #15. He and partner Ram Sharma turned in a net 66.
Ben's shot at the treacherous #16.

Ben on #17.

Ram Sharma on #14, with his gorgeous swing.

Notice the left leg, and how it neatly lifts itself at impact. A model
swing, for some.

Ram starring down the ball in his pre-shot routine.

Ram likes to stare down the ball. He's the boss, and the ball needs to learn
who's in charge.

Ram hamming it up for the camera.

Bob Tulk and Jim Peretti take a lovely nap.

Aaron Walburg hitting his approach to #6. He and Joel turned in a net
69.

Joel Walburg on 16.

Joel watches his approach shot to 18. He sank the 10-foot birdie putt.

Steve and son Robert sharing a laugh at Jim Peretti's expense. Although
Robert didn't score better than his father, he did manage to distract Jim,
throwing off his game. Steve, couldn't have been more proud of his son. By
the way, in his own words, Robert was "deadly" inside 100 yards.

Anxious golfers await Steve's tally.

Two teams shot 58 and three teams shot 59. All the tie-breakers make for
quite a bit of math.

Chris Baker and Russell Greenwood posing with checks. They squeaked in for
an 8th place finish with their net 62. Their success serves as a lesson to
all those serious golfers. Loosen up a bit and it just might pay off.
Perhaps don't loosen up as much though, or it could get a bit
out-of-hand...

Ken Lloyd admiring his well-deserved earnings. His 68 was a personal-best
at Tilden Park.
