2-day Tournament:
Graeagle Meadows / Whitehawk Ranch
10th Event of 2000 Season
Saturday & Sunday, 7/29/00 - 7/30/00

This successful foursome enjoys beer after completing Saturday's round at Graeagle Meadows. Top row are Andrew Kang and Tom Furtado; bottom row are Scott Meredith and Mark Steppan. Mark won the First Flight by going 4-over par(gross) during the two rounds. On Saturday Mark shot a 75(net 70). Sunday he shot 72(net 68), beating Rick Guevara in the tie-breaker by shooting a 1-under par back nine in Sunday's round. Scott Meredith captured third in the Second Flight with solid play both days. Andrew Kang placed fourth in the Second Flight and won the Second Flight's CTP on Sunday at Whitehawk Ranch's tricky 7th hole. Andrew pulverized a 9-iron from 164 yards.

Day 1 - Graeagle Meadows

Leading the pack are eventual Second Flight winner Robert Desimone, his father Steve, new member Rollie Otto, guest Mary Pastori, and Gregg Thornton.

Robert and Rollie watch Steve narrowly miss hitting the water hazard.

Rollie hits a perfectly placed shot. Steve observes. Wonders how he might get Rollie on the Cal squad.

Mike Henry hits it long on hole #2.

Guest Greg Porto admires his long drive on #2.

Greg admiring another shot on #5. Greg had game this weekend.

Scott Swanson, Kelly Alvarez, and Russell Greenwood enjoy the perfect weather.

Joel Walburg finishes high on #6.

Against the wishes of his betting partner and brother, Joel opts to attempt this needle-threading. Of course, they lost the hole.

Todd Fitchen narrowly misses this 10-footer on #5 as Mike Gainza and Bill Hoover look on.

Todd tosses his ball after finishing out. Marty Connell's got the flag and in the background Mike celebrates his team's momentary victory on the hole.

Left to right are Todd Fitchen, Marty Connell, Bill Hoover, and Mike Gainza.

Graeagle Meadows is a very scenic course. This is the approach shot at #15.

Aaron with the catch of the day. He birdied the 17th hole with a drive that hit the back of the cart of the group in front. His 9-iron produced these fine specimens.

Joel displays concern over this one.

Beer and a view for this foursome. Left to right are Ross Sakamoto, Todd Podoll, David Lozow, and Rick Guevara. Rick held the lead in the first flight when he shot a net 68 in the first round . His net 70 on the second day garnered him a tie with Mark Steppan. Mark won the tie-breaker with a strong back 9, and Rick captured 2nd.

It's probably time for the bar tender to cut these guys off. Left to right are Ed Biglin, Randy Ballew, Elliott Friedman, and Chris Maters. The foursome shared success in this tournament. Ed won the CTP by knocking it to within 6-feet of the 7th hole on Sunday. Elliott played consistently well, shooting net 69 both days and taking second in the Second Flight. Chris timed his scoring well enough to capture the Blind Bogey Flight.

With each additional beer, the stories grew more and more wild. At one point Greg Porto was describing his drive on #14 while Mike Henry was telling some story about a bear in the woods.

Things progressed from there back at the campgrounds.

Day 2 - Whitehawk Ranch

How well would you play had you slept next to one of these all night? Cut Aaron a little slack for once for under such conditions he performed admirably.

Sunday brought the troops to Whitehawk Ranch, an awesome course. Here Joel hits his drive on the uphill and very long (449 yards) par four 4th hole.

Mike's drive on the 4th got caught up in the right rough behind a few trees. His subsequent shot ricocheted off the trunk and further into the woods. Sometimes it's better to take your medicine.

Perhaps one of the best drives of Aaron's life occurred on the 4th hole. Unfortunately, he mis-fired on his approach shot and suffered a bogey. With a little luck, Aaron was able to capture third place in the First Flight, edging out Steve D. by 1-stroke. Aaron's 50-foot par putt on the second to last hole and chip-in for par on the last hole made the difference. It was quite a comeback, capturing third place after taking a 10 (par 4) on the very first hole of the two-day event.

Greg Porto's drive on hole 14.
