Lloyd Crenna on the 1st tee. Lloyd earned a goodly sum of UCGC money,
capturing 3rd place in the third flight and getting a CTP on the front
nine.
On the second tee are John Carlson, Paul Witkay, and Barry Woods.
Paul helps John look for his ball on Hole #5.

Finishing up on Hole 11 are Mary Pistore, Paul Higaki and his wife Gayle, and Gregg
Thornton.
Bi-plane flying overhead. Lot's of aerial activities took
place all day as it was Fleet Week and we were playing next to the Oakland
Airport. Even the Blue Angels used a nearby airstrip.

Steve Desimone on the 8th tee.
Sam Scalise hitting his second shot on the par 5 6th hole.
Mike O'Neill chunked one on the 5th hole. (Playing partner Ryan Lai wanted this
shot on the front page).
Mark Boguski pulls it out of the cup after making the par
putt on #7.
Don "Ace" Wade(2nd from left) watches as Lloyd Crenna measures his shot on #7.
Don's shot
of 3 ' - 7 " won him the 2nd flight's Closest-to-the-Pin and $15.
Lloyd also measured his own shot to this hole, and at
21 ' - 1 1/2 " he won the 3rd flight's CTP.

Mark on #14.

Robert Desimone on #15.
Mike Birnbach's chip-shot on #15. His net 65 would give
him 2nd place in the first flight. It would also tie him for overall
low-net, however his back nine wasn't the lowest in the tie-breaker for
overall low net.
Mike O'Neill hits his approach on #18.
Martin Kitchener hits from behind a tree at #18.Martin's 65 would earn him first

Robert Desimone and Dave Chia pile it on at the Awards Banquet.
Robert and Steve divvy out the trophies and jabbing quips.
After his dinner, Barry Woods, braves a large serving of
Desimone-beratement as he collects his trophy. His net 65 tied two others
in the first flight, but his back nine didn't measure up to Scott
Meredith's net 31 and he had to settle
for third place.
Paul Higaki(shown with his wife) shot a net 67 which provided
him a 1st place finish in the 3rd flight and also catapulted him into
third place in Golfer-of-the-Year.
Steve Desimone had a big day. He extended his Eddie Reed
Tournament streak, winning the championship flight for the third
consecutive year. His score of 75 also gave him low gross and the
President's Cup.
Martin Kitchener's net 65 earned him first place in the
second flight. His net 65 put him in a four-way tie for low net, which
Scott Meredith won in the tie-breaker with a net 31 on the back nine.
Golfer of the Year Scott Meredith holding his 1st place Club Championship
trophy and Golfer of the Year plague. With anything less than a first place finish there was a
slight chance that Mike Henry could have over-taken him in the race for
Golfer-of-the-Year, but Scott Meredith didn't buckle under pressure. His
net 65 placed him in a four way tie for Low Net, and his 31 net back nine
gave him the tie-breaker, enabling him not only to win the first flight,
but also Overall Low Net.
Mike Henry had made an incredible late-season run, but
fell short in the final tournament. With second place in Golfer-of
the-Year clinched, he could only have moved up in place, but doing so
would have required him to edge Scott Meredith. Mike's net 69 was 5
strokes shy of this. In order for him to succeed he would have had to shot
a 78, matching his lifetime personal best. Here Mike sports his 2nd
place GOY plaque and 1sr place Eddie Reed tournament plague.
Van Hall and Mike Birnbach show off their trophies. Van's
77 earned him second place in the Championship Flight. Mike's net 65 put
him in a 3-way tie in the first flight, but the tie-breaker put him in
second place.
After the awards were dispensed the real drama was unfolding
on the big-screen TV. The SF Giants were about to lose Game 3 in 13
innings during the Division Series Playoff against the New York Mets. Here
Mike Armstrong & his wife Anne (better half, much better) watch the nail-biter.
Don "Ace" Wade("Ace" because he won both
Closest-to-the-Pin contests in the second flight), Lloyd Crenna, and Jack King
watch the drama unfold.
Eddie Reed, Ron Irving, and John Robertson feeling better
after a beer.

So are Mike and Joel.
Ralph Hill telling a story about the birdie that got away
to anyone who'll listen. Cornered are Dave Webb, Van Hall, and Jeff Hazel.
Ryan Lai and Mike O'Neill wanted this picture "for
the losers"(note the beer). Little did they realize how accurate(and drunk) they
were as playing partner Kelly Alvarez sneaks into the background.
