Make sure to sign up in time for our first major of the year. It is
always an exciting event. The deadline for entry is April 21, 2006. We
all hope that the rains will subside by then and we can once again enjoy
the wonderful bay area golf weather. Does anyone know the STOP THE RAIN
dance? If so please perform the dance immediately!
Given the rather unusual wet weather we must call our selves
fortunate to have at least a glimmer of sun/clouds for the Stone Tree
tourney. While there was some rain, the conditions were ideal for play.
In fact by the end of the day most members had ditched their rain gears
and umbrellas in favor of golf shirts. Overall the weather proved to be
more accommodating that anyone thought. Aaron was gloating on the
practice green about how a UCGC event has not been rained out for nearly
3 years.
The course proved quite challenging for our esteemed members.
Interestingly, every flight had to use a tie breaker to determine the
winner. In the first flight, Steve Desimone took 1st place with a net
score of 75, beating Dave Lozow, who also scored a net 75 in the tie
breaker. David Moers took third place over Steve Hong in a tie breaker
as well, with a net score of 76.
In the second flight there was a 3 way tie between Matt Foley, Rick
Guevara and Jeff Field with a net 72. Matt edged out Rick to claim first
place, with Jeff Field placing third.
In the third flight Ryan Tabibian won with a net 74 in a tie breaker
against Todd Podoll., Tom Furtado claimed the 3rd place spot, with a
second placement in consecutive tournaments. Tom also won the CTP in
the 3rd flight. A word of advice for anyone who plans on betting against
Tom on Par-3's -- Do not do it!! He will take your money and laugh all
the way to the bank.
Sun, sun and more sun, was the theme of the day at delta view. The
weather was absolutely perfect. The course was in great condition,
and the greens were as tricky as ever. Jimmy Ikeda was the winner of the
first flight with a net 68. Mark Northfield easily took the second
flight by a whopping 13 strokes. Cries were heard all around the bar
after the round with mark posting his second score in the 60's this
seasons.
Third flight was captured by non other than long time member Tom
Furtado. While he got off to a rocky start on the front nine, he
recovered nicely in the back. Tom has proven his back nine recovery
skill consistently this year starting with the club championship in
Alameda where he posted an amazing 39 on the back. Tom could be really
dangerous if UCGC tournaments were 27 hole events!
Below is the list of winners from previous tournaments:
The mailing includes the Delta View starting sheet, along with the
Stone Tree entry form. Stone Tree is one of Northern California's hidden
gems. The course is challenging and exciting. DON'T MISS IT!!
The weather forecast looks promising for tomorrow. There might be
some scattered showers, but we all hope for a great golf day. Here is
the Accuweather link for Pittsburg.
Don't forget the Eddie Reed entry forms are due no
later than March 17th, 2006. There are NO EXCEPTIONS for later
entries. So please try to get your forms to Steve ASAP.
Mark Siegel and Ryan Tabibian our 2006 Golfer of the Year Leaders!
Who cares about Tiger Woods and John Daly in a playoff at Harding Park?
What's most amazing is that Mark Siegel took a 12 on a par four at San
Geronimo and still managed to win the second flight in our season opener
at San Geronimo. Read more,
