meetings. Board meetings always take place at Mandarin Garden Restaurant
(formerly Yu Ying Garden
Restaurant, and prior to that it was Mandarin Garden Restaurant) at
2025
Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, [Near University Ave], and invariably involve
ample beer-drinking.
11/8/00 - Topics
included: Doubling points for majors, Hole-in-one prizes, making the club championship a 2-day affair, and adding
more GOY points and prize money for Eddie Reed Tournament.
12/12/01 - Topics
included: The new schedule.
3/20/02 - Topics
included: GOY points for
the championship flight of the Club Championship awarded not by low
gross, but by low net. also discussed were details concerning the Las Vegas trip
planned for July.
9/11/02 - Topics
included: Proposal to
approach UCSF Golf Club for an annual 2-Ball competition. Proposal to revise the selection process for determining which club
members represent during NCGA events. Adding Perpetual trophies to all
majors. Walburg donated two large
trophies to serve as perpetual low net and low gross trophies in the Club
Championship.
8/13/03 - Topics included:
2004-2005 Elections, board assembled a list of potential candidates,
Walburg announced his desire to run for President (to the amazement and
horror of all present). 2004 Schedule
Desimone presented the tentative 2004 schedule. Mira Vista Potential -
Walburg presented the board with a prospect that could place Mira Vista on
the 2005 schedule. Winter vs. Summer Rules - Desimone addressed the board
with the results of the Winter vs. Summer rules survey, and we will now
play summer rules by default. Electronic Option - Walburg says he’s ready
to make the switch to the electronic handicapping system, as mandated by
the NCGA. Gold Foil Certificates for GOY winners - Walburg announced that
he’d obtained enough gold foil U.C. seals to provide for several years of
GOY certificates. The idea is that GOY winners would receive a
personalized certificate, rather than a relatively anonymous plaque. Club
President and Club Manager will sign (authenticate) these award
certificates.
11/18/03 - Many items were

8/11/04 -
Many topics were discussed. One of the items discussed was the creation of
UCGC shirts. We'll begin taking pre-orders once the shirt has been
designed. Other items included: 2005 membership dues, a possible club web
directory, procedure for showing up late for tee times, score posting,
Aaron Walburg as new co-chair for handicapping, NCGA events, penalties for
forfeiting Eddie Reed matches, larger flights, speeding up play, scoring
error procedure.
12/8/04 -
Score posting Penalties. We’re still getting 3-4 per tournament. Penalties
are primarily due to forgetting to post altogether, but also to not
properly adjusting, Penalties for missing NCGA events, Scoring Error at
Shadow Lakes, Membership Cap: 135 members (and ties) will be applied.
Anyone wishing to add after that will be placed on a waiting list (ranked
by date). Steve mentioned that for the first time in his career a former
Cal golfer, Charlie Wi, qualified for the PGA tour.
3/9/05 -
Topics: Club may soon go paperless; Receiving GOY participation points
despite DQ – motion passed - The board implemented a policy whereby
members must post scores on 15 holes to earn the participation points;
Formula for Eddie Reed seedings – stick with old system; GHIN Software
Optimized for UCGC - Walburg added three fields to the GHIN database; Club
Directory - For all board members; UCGC Member Affiliations Undefined –
Needs Clarity; Revised /Updated Scoring Sheets for New Members - Walburg
has revised the scoring sheets for 2005; Formal policy on showing up
late/missing tee time; News on Walburg’s idea for a Mira Vista / Harding
Park Weekend (three years in the making); More Prize Money for winning
Golfer of the Year – motion failed; Entry Fee covered by UCGC for NCGA
Associate Club Team Matches; Walburg wanted to meet at a new restaurant -
motion failed.
