 CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!

The Men's U.C. Golf Team won its first National Championship on June 4 in Virginia. Visit any sports web site and read all about it! Read full story at the NCAA Sports Web Site. They were competing in the Division I Men's Championship at the Homestead's Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Virginia from June 1-4, 2004. The Bears led the field after days 1 and 2, but had to overcome an 8 stroke deficit in a rain and wind plagued final round to win the national title. Some Facts:

  • Since 1938 (66 years) only 34 coaches have won it.

  • In 107 years, only 29 different universities have won the National Championship

  • Cal is the 5th California University to win the National Championship.

  • Cal tied for the 6th lowest team score in modern era (Since 1968 - past 37 years).

  • Steve Desimone is the 2nd Coach named "Steve". The first was coach Steve Loy who coached the Arizona State team to victory in 1990.
