This chart ranks Bay Area
locations in terms of monthly precipitation averages. It provides
golfers a resource for determining where one can best expect to
find rain-free golf during any given month. The lighter the color
the less chance of rain. Locations are ranked such that those
nearer the top of the list have the least rainfall. Any location not
listed during a given month has an average of more than 4" of
rainfall and is a poor candidate for rain-free golf. Each month is
represented in a column. Directly below the month is the rainfall
range which the locations below fall between.
Overall, the month with the least rain is July while
the month with the most rain is January. If you really want
to avoid rain play either Fairfield, Livermore, Napa, or San
Francisco in July. Average rainfall during this period in those
locations is .02". If you're looking for rain,
play Marin County in January, which averages 11.0" during that
month.
This chart is based upon data acquired from the Western
Regional Climate Center.
Note: Steve Desimone pointed out that this chart doesn't account
for other golf-inhibiting phenomena, such as winter tule fog
in inland areas like Modesto and Sacramento, or winter frost
delays, which can occur anywhere. |
