Good Golf Club Web Sites
During the course of working on this site I often
encounter other golf club web sites. Here is a list of other golf clubs
which I feel do a good job with their web site. This list does not include
clubs which have a golf course, because a golf course management is a
for-profit venture and as such they have marketing departments and can
employ designers and or hire design firms to build and manage a web site.
The sites I list here are sites which are not about the course, but about
the members. I assess sites in terms of what kind of a site I, as a
member, would be excited to visit. It's all about member-related content,
not enticing people to play a golf course. I prefer an informal web site,
i.e. it can be slick, but it must make a personal connection to the
membership. Most clubs that have golf courses don't have web sites which
are personalized. The member section is generally a subset of the golf
course web site.
A typical golf club web site might be
Adobe Creek. It's not a bad site,
but there's little content specific to members. And the
Men's club section is
not really a primary focus.
Sites with good content
Annual ParTee -
An Arizona based club - This club has great spirit. I like the enthusiasm.
What they obviously lack in golf skill (kidding), they make up for with fun. And the
hole-by-hole scoring they post is very impressive detail. Good job Ed, Jim,
and Ben.
Indo-American Golf
Association - Good content. Strength is member results, via excel
spreadsheets. Raj Gautam is Club President and does their web site. He's
also Ram Sharma's nephew! Ram is a member of that club and of ours, but
Ram hasn't played in a tournament with us since
October of 2001.
USC Trojan Golf
Club - When I saw this site, I must admit, my heart skipped a beat,
especially when I realized that like our site, it's simply a golf club
and likely doesn't have a paid staff. I'll have to look into it more,
because this site rivals our own in many categories. We've got them beat
on archives and photos, but the USC Golf Club has one impressive site.
University of Texas at Austin's MBA Golf Association - I like the
simple design of this site. Not enough photos for my taste, but a good
start. Would like to see pages which extend more deeply than one level
into the site. The best page is the Board Member page.
