UCGC New Slow Play Policy

The UCGC slow play policy leaves the responsibility for maintaining pace of play with the entire group. Play ready golf and keep up with the group ahead of you and you will not have any pace of play issues.

Monitoring Pace of Play:

There will be a board member designated for each tournament to monitor pace of play. This individual will play in the second group out, and as soon as he/she finishes playing will go back out to the course and monitor groups and their pace of play. Any group which is out of position, defined as one or more holes behind the group ahead of them, will be issued a warning. They will have 2 more holes to catch up, approximately 25 minutes. If they are still out of position after the 25 minutes, a two-stroke penalty will be issued to each player in the group. If that group does not catch up to the group ahead after two more holes they are subject to disqualification.

A player concerned about a slow player(s) in his/her group should first speak with the player(s) and encourage them to play more efficiently. Other helpful things to do are one, be a good forecaddie for your group on errant shots and, two always be aware of where the group in front of you is. That is your responsibility.

Scorecard:

You will be required to return the official scorecard to the scoring area immediately after completion of your round. When your scorecard is turned in your completion time will be put on it, which will be compared to your starting time to give your group an overall playing time. Your completion time will also be compared to the completion time of the group ahead of you. These times will be monitored for future starting position. This information will be used to put perennial slow groups in the back or end of our tee time block.

Appeal process:

Pace of play penalties may be appealed to the Tournament Committee and must be made before scorecards are signed and returned. In order for an appeal to be considered, there must a circumstance beyond the players control, such as an action by an individual player in the group.
